Mfariji Mentorship clubs are founded on the belief that every girl harbors the potential to become a leader of change within her community. Through an interactive curriculum that runs throughout the year we equip, empower and educate at-risk adolescent girls to build leadership skills like self-reflection, critical thinking, sound decision making, goal setting, clear communication and personal accountability. The girls are carefully selected on the basis of academic performance, family economic background and leadership potential.
Our model is built on Cascading Leadership where we are working with older adolescent girls or young women to be leaders and run programs for younger adolescent girls. These is a group of promising, older girls, but from the same disadvantaged community who we have put through an intense training to prepare them to be mentors.
At the same time, we are building the mentees through the mentorship clubs to take on leadership responsibilities as trainers/facilitators so that they can pass on the information to other girls

My name is Maureen a class 7 pupil from Kangondi Primary School. I would like to be the first Mechanical Engineer from our primary school when I grow up. As a mentee for Mfariji mentorship clubs, I will be unstoppable, nothing will hinder me from achieving my dreams. This opportunity to join the Mfariji Mentorship clubs couldn’t have come at a better time for me to gain leadership and life skills.
Mentoring has proven to increase confidence, make girls feel valued and allowed them to believe in their self-worth.
